The Crossing is a professional chamber choir conducted by Donald Nally and dedicated to new music. It is committed to working with creative teams to make and record new, substantial works for choir that explore and expand ways of writing for choir, singing in choir, and listening to music for choir. The group has issued 29 releases, receiving three Grammy Awards for Best Choral Performance and eight Grammy nominations.
Chamber choir the Crossing presented its second Month of Moderns, a festival of contemporary choral music featuring three newly commissioned works by Lansing McLoskey, Paul Fowler, and 2008 Pulitzer Prize winner David Lang. All three compositions were based on the words of Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award winner and former United States Poet Laureate Philip Levine. McLoskey's work featured the impressive Mander organ of the Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill; Fowler composed a work for unaccompanied choir; and Lang composed a work for choir and strings performed with the Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra.
