As a presenting arts organization, the Painted Bride offers a wide range of work in music, dance, spoken word, and theater, supporting over 25,000 artists, hosting over 5,000 events, and commissioning over 100 new works since 1969. Throughout its history, the Bride has been committed to supporting a wide range of artists and amplifying underrepresented voices to foster diversity and inclusivity.
Painted Bride Art Center commissioned composer, bandleader, and jazz drummer John Hollenbeck to create and perform a new work with his Large Ensemble. Hollenbeck also participated in a two-week residency program, during which he produced and performed a new work in collaboration with 10 Philadelphia musicians.
A virtuosic percussionist with a daring approach to composition, Hollenbeck is a Grammy-nominated artist best known for his work with the big band group the John Hollenbeck Large Ensemble and the avant-garde jazz ensemble The Claudia Quintet.
