Skins & Songs
Painted Bride Art Center
2011
$70,000
Painted Bride Arts Center presented Skins & Songs: four public performances in May 2012 that featured repertoire developed during a 10-month collaboration between the Spoken Hand Percussion Orchestra, a Philadelphia ensemble made up of four drum batteries (Brazilian, Cuban, North Indian, and West African), and Philip Hamilton's Voices, an a cappella and vocal percussion group that draws on music genres from around the globe, such as Tuvan throat singing, hip hop beat-boxing, and doo-wop. Ancillary programs included a residency with choral students at Philadelphia's Creative and Performing Arts High School.
