Founded in 1995 as an interdisciplinary ensemble, Pig Iron Theatre Company is dedicated to the creation of new and exuberant performance works that defy easy categorization. Over the course of its lifespan, Pig Iron has created more than two dozen original works and has toured to festivals and venues across the US, Europe, and Asia. Pig Iron trains the next generation of daring physical theater artists through the Pig Iron School for Advanced Performance Training.
Pig Iron Theatre Company will hire its first director of a new digital, film, and interactive initiative to lead the experimental theater company’s extension into digital content creation, bridging live performance and media-based artmaking while also generating alternative revenue sources. This initiative—in conjunction with an advisory group focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion—will establish channels of leadership and interdisciplinary collaboration for BIPOC artists as the company works to realize forward thinking and equitable artistic and business practices.
The total grant amount represents project funding plus an additional 20% in unrestricted general operating support.
