Pearl S. Buck International carried out preservation work on the Pearl S. Buck House, completing structural work on the property that made it possible for visitors to access this historic site's second floor bedroom, where many important pieces of the house's collection are located. A National Historic Landmark, the site interprets the life and work of Buck, a writer, advocate, and humanitarian, and the first woman to receive both the Pulitzer and Nobel Prizes for literature. Buck founded the Welcome House Adoption Agency in 1949, and in 1964 founded the Pearl S. Buck Foundation as a child sponsorship organization to help children in their own countries with health, education, and job training. Both initiatives are still functioning today, under the umbrella of Pearl S. Buck International.
