The first artistic collaboration between New Paradise Laboratories (NPL) founding company members—performers and designers who have comprised NPL since 1998—and newer, younger members, The Adults explored central questions around adulthood: How do we know if we're adults? What determines adulthood beyond economic standing and individual responsibility? Led by NPL's Obie Award-winning artistic director Whit MacLaughlin, The Adults was developed for a two-week world premiere run at the 2014 Fringe Festival presented by FringeArts, with direction by MacLaughlin, scenography by NPL founding member Matt Saunders, and a musical score by experimental musician and 2013 Pew Fellow Bhob Rainey. The work drew rave reviews from The New York Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Huffington Post, Philebrity, NewsWorks, and many others.
