Solomon is an Ethiopian-American social documentary filmmaker and multimedia visual artist. Through a combination of film, installation, and archival methods, she seeks to document and reimagine the complex experiences of African communities undergoing transition. Foregrounding personal narratives, her work explores culture and identity—as seen in projects like Africa's Cultural Landmarks, a permanent 12-part film installation for The Metropolitan Museum of Art highlighting major cultural landmarks across sub-Saharan Africa and the caretakers who preserve them. The series was commissioned by the Met for its newly reimagined Arts of Africa galleries. In both commercial and nonprofit sectors, Solomon has directed and filmed numerous projects centering underrepresented voices, including Dreaming of Jerusalem, a Discovery+ original documentary about the Ethiopian Jewish community in Gondar, and MERKATO, an internationally exhibited, multisensory installation. Her films have appeared at Sundance, Tribeca, Cinema Africa, DOC NYC, and BlackStar film festivals. She holds an MFA in social documentary film from the School of Visual Arts and a BA in television production from Temple University.
