In recordings as a solo artist and compositions for orchestras, chamber ensembles, and operas, Joachim centers an authentic commitment to storytelling, connection, social change, and cultural awareness. Interweaving Haitian folkloric and Western classical music with research and oral histories, she illuminates ancestry, personal lineage, and identity in a body of work she describes as “a tapestry of and testament to the histories, humanity, and potential futures of African diasporic people.” Joachim is the Composer in Residence for Opera Philadelphia’s 2025-26 season, for which she contributed to the company’s world premiere opera, Complications in Sue. New and recent works include the opera Le présent éternel, performed at the Museum of Modern Art and with the New York Philharmonic; the multimedia work Solitude + S P A C E at Princeton Sound Kitchen and the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society; as well as works written for London Sinfonietta/Holland Festival and the Jacksonville Symphony. Her recordings include the Grammy Award-nominated Fanm d’Ayiti (New Amsterdam Records) and Ki moun ou ye (Nonesuch Records and New Amsterdam Records). She has an MA in media studies from The New School and a BM in flute performance from The Juilliard School.
