Questions of Practice: FringeArts’ Nick Stuccio on Curating Performance

We asked Nick Stuccio, President and Producing Director at FringeArts, to comment on how curation in performance might differ from curation in the visual arts. He explained that in the world of visual art, the curator’s role and ideas “are so much more present; they are alongside the art,” whereas in performance, curation might be “off-putting” to the audience.

Nick Stuccio serves as President and Producing Director at FringeArts, and is the co-founder of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival. His career in the arts began with an intensive study of classical ballet at Skidmore College, where he also earned a degree in biology. His dedication to the form led to an apprenticeship with the Pennsylvania Ballet and eventually a position as a corps member with the company. With Center support, FringeArts is presenting a re-imagined production of Available Light by choreographer Lucinda Childs, architect Frank Gehry, and composer John Adams at the Fringe Festival in September 2015.
