In Plain Air
The world premiere of a new composition from Phyllis Chen and Nathan Davis inaugurates the newly installed pipe organ at the historic Christ Church. In Plain Air, presented by Christ Church Preservation Trust, carries audiences through the campus and history of one of the nation’s most historic sites. Chen and Davis, both members of the highly acclaimed International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), immersed themselves in the sound-making possibilities of the church’s organ, bells, and open spaces, as well as the history of Christ Church’s buildings and grounds. Performances by the church’s director of music and organist, Parker Kitterman, and twelve members of ICE employ a variety of instruments and technology in a multi-movement program placing the new pipe organ at its center.
