Pig Iron Theatre Company will collaborate with Japanese playwright, director, and choreographer Toshi Okada to create a new work,* Zero Cost House. Hailed as a provocateur in his home country, Okada is known for his hyper-casual, colloquial writing and gestural, self-conscious choreography. *Zero Cost House *will be Okada’s first English-language work and will center on Japanese and American ideas about space, seclusion, and happiness; the text and choreography will grow out of interactions between Okada, Pig Iron Co-Artistic Director Dan Rothenberg, and the Pig Iron ensemble. Playwright Aya Ogawa, who has translated all of Okada’s plays into English, will facilitate this collaboration. Rothenberg will direct *Zero Cost House for this world premiere.
