Leah Stein Dance Company conducted a year of research and training with electronic music pioneer Pauline Oliveros. Stein's goal was to unite the traditionally separate worlds of choreography and musical composition through physical and sound explorations with singers and dancers. "I have seen singers dance and dancers sing," Stein says. "I long for the third thing: a creative process that truly merges the choreographic with the auditory." Oliveros, who coined the practice of "Deep Listening," previously worked with the company on Urban Echo (2008), which incorporated singers from the Mendelssohn Club Chorus. Throughout the research year written accounts of the process were published online. The project culminated in a public showing and panel discussion in June 2014 with Oliveros and her long-time colleague Stuart Dempster.
