Charles O. Anderson and Vincent Sekwati Koko Mantsoe, Tar, 2007.

Choreographer and 2007 Pew Fellow Charles O. Anderson engaged South African choreographer Vincent Sekwati Koko Mantsoe in a discovery process to develop a new work for dance theatre X, a Philadelphia-based contemporary dance company founded by Anderson. The resulting multimedia work, Tar, reinterpreted Joel Chandler Harris’ southern folklore “The Wonderful Tarbaby Story.” Tar premiered during the 2007 Philadelphia Fringe Festival, and featured music by Pew Fellow King Britt and video art by Amze Emmons.
