Rami George’s (they/their) visual art practice turns an autobiographical lens on their queer experience, Lebanese heritage, and family history in a New Age spiritual community. Using common materials such as plywood, plastic sheeting, and house paint, George’s mixed-media installations and video works draw from archives and family ephemera. In the video piece Untitled (the wars in Lebanon), for example, George examines the vestiges of the 15-year Lebanese Civil War, namely their mother’s experience as a social worker during the conflict and how it led her to search for an alternative spiritual community. George’s works have been exhibited and screened at solo and group exhibitions in several galleries and other venues around the US and UK, including the MIT List Center for the Visual Arts in Massachusetts, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia, and LUX in London. George earned an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania and a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
