Dancer, choreographer, and theater artist Karen Getz is the creator of Suburban Love Songs, a comic-actors' ballet set at a 1968 cocktail party. In this Center-supported production, dancers were replaced with comic actors and the ballet vocabulary with popular and Latin dances of the late 1960s. The soundtrack included songs by Sergio Mendes, Herb Alpert, and Jose Feliciano. Getz chose again to work with actors with a gift for physical comedy in The AI Project, a piece exploring what it means to be human through the behaviors of artificially intelligent robots. Getz has choreographed over 50 productions for the Philadelphia theater community and is a member of the city's improv scene.
