Dan Spock is the Senior Vice President for Audience Engagement at the Levine Museum of the New South in Charlotte, North Carolina. For 20 years prior, Spock led the museum program at the Minnesota Historical Society (MNHS). While there, Spock’s team produced dozens of exhibitions, some of which received national award recognition. Spock and Darielle Mason contributed a conversation to our Questions of Practice library in which they discussed issues of museum accessibility, experiential design, and the influence of digital culture on visitor engagement.

Exhibits produced under Spock’s leadership have included multidisciplinary, high-immersion, interactive and media-rich approaches designed for a general family audience, some of which have traveled nationally, as well as intensive community-based collaborations, site-specific interpretive centers and trails, and more traditional art or photography shows. He has developed live public programs to serve various audience segments that include families with children, school audiences, seniors, young adults, recent immigrant communities, and communities of color. Spock has consulted and lectured at a variety of museum and learning institutions and published writings on many museum subjects. He has a BA in Art from Antioch College.
