Benjamin Akio Kimitch is an award-winning artist and producer based in Brooklyn, New York. He is Producer for New Opera, Music, Theater and Dance at the Perelman Performing Arts Center, where he has developed new productions by Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig, Huang Ruo, and Bill T. Jones, as well as the Broadway-bound CATS: The Jellicle Ball.
In his 15 years of producing experience, he has also advanced new works in opera, theater, and dance, by artists including Laurence Fishburne, David Henry Hwang, Martine Gutierrez, Hannah Black, and others, as well as remounts by Penny Arcade and Diamanda Galás. At the Park Avenue Armory, Kimitch was Production Coordinator for two seasons, working directly with artists including Peter Sellars, Hélène Grimaud, the D.R.E.A.M. Ring, and Paris Opera Ballet Étoiles.
As an artist, Kimitch is the recipient of an Asian Cultural Council Fellowship and a Bessie Award for Outstanding Choreographer. His commissioned works have been presented by New York Live Arts, The Shed, The Kitchen, Danspace Project, The Noguchi Museum, and Princeton University. Kimitch has been awarded artistic residencies at MacDowell, Yaddo, MANCC, Movement Research, and others. Since 2023, he has collaborated with choreographer Yasuko Yokoshi in an ongoing US and Japan research project.
