The Bucks County Historical Society (BCHS), a nonprofit organization founded in 1880, collects, preserves, and interprets the rich history and culture of Bucks County and the Delaware Valley region, and operates the Mercer Museum & Library and Fonthill Castle. A National Historic Landmark, the Mercer Museum was founded in 1916 by historian and archaeologist Henry Mercer to display a collection of over 50,000 eighteenth- and nineteenth-century tools and artifacts representing more than 60 early American trades. In 2019, BCHS received a Project grant to present Plus Ultra: Awakening the Mercer Museum Core, an effort to reinterpret the museum’s collection through new installations in two currently unused rooms.
