The last twelve months have been a time of continuing challenge and hard-won resilience for the cultural sector. Looking ahead to the new year, we asked our grantees how they envision the possibilities for the arts landscape, inviting them to share with us a single word that encapsulates their hopes for their artistic and organizational practices in 2022.
These words offer a window into the mindset of the Philadelphia region's artists and cultural leaders who have nominated inspirational ideas and values such as connection, transformation, justice, and love.
You'll see the full list below, and I hope you'll take a moment to also share your word for 2022 with us on social media.
My own choice for 2022 is "Generosity." Generosity of spirit, generosity of imagination, generosity of intellect: qualities that are necessary for thoughtful grantmaking and that likewise abound in creative expression and exchange. As we strive to move forward from the rigors of the last 18 months, we're gratified for the continuing privilege, made possible by the generosity of our funder The Pew Charitable Trusts, to support an exceptional and diverse community of artists and arts and history organizations.
All of us at The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage wish you a festive holiday season and a safe, healthy, and joyful new year.
Executive Director, The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage
