Students at the closed Fairhill Elementary School on May 1, 2015 for the launch of Temple Contemporary’s Center-funded reFORM.

Students, teachers, parents, administrators, and community members gathered at the closed Fairhill Elementary School on May 1, 2015 for the launch of Temple Contemporary's Center-funded reFORM. Former Fairhill principals and students shared their memories of the school in speeches and performances at the first community gathering since their school was closed in 2013. The event culminated with a procession of mementos and objects salvaged from the school and transported by truck to Tyler School of Art's nearby North Philadelphia campus.

The objects will be incorporated into a participatory installation inside a Tyler classroom, by artist and Pew Fellow Pepón Osorio. Opening August 28 and remaining on view through the semester, the installation will incorporate the left-behind chalkboards, desks, chairs, and mementos from now-empty classrooms in an effort to creatively address the loss of the school's closing.
