Mural Arts and SEPTA's second annual "Love Train" received national media coverage from more than 100 media outlets. At the event, which took place on February 13, 2011, Mayor Michael Nutter married Krisy Plourde and Tom Golden on the train as it traveled down the Market/Frankford El train line.
The "Love Train" is an annual Mural Arts event on a privately-chartered, slow-speed, guided El train tour of the 50 love-themed rooftop murals that make up the Love Letter project. Love Letter features of the work of street artist Stephen Powers and was funded by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage in 2008.
CNN wrote: "This was the second Love Train on Valentine's Day weekend since the murals were completed in 2009. Last fall a Canadian couple got engaged during the Love Letter tour. That inspired the Mural Arts program to do something creative for the Valentine's Love Train. The organizers decided to hold a contest for couples who wanted to get married on the Love Train. Plourde and Golden applied in the fall and were selected in January."
MSNBC wrote: "Plourde, an event planner who regularly commutes on SEPTA from suburban Springfield, said entering a contest to be married on the El was almost a whim. But she said that it was based on a true passion for the city and that friends and family were supportive."
