David Patrick Stearns of the Philadelphia Inquirer reviewed the latest presentation in The Crossing's Month of Moderns festival, The Gulf (between you & me), which explores how humans respond to the natural world. On June 23, 2013 at the Ice Box in the Crane Arts building, the choir presented a world premiere by composer Chris Jonas, as well as works by Santa Ratniece and Justé Janulyté, and images by artist Dan Cole.
Jonas' composition was inspired by the Pierre Joris poem "Love at First Sigh," which reflects on the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Stearns remarks that Jonas' music combined with the Dan Cole's visuals "created a near-seamless total effect that brought you infinitely closer to the Gulf disaster, and its implications, than news reports ever could."
