The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage’s 2019 Year in Review highlights the remarkable work our grantees produced throughout the year and the pressing issues of cultural practice discussed in our Questions of Practice research series. We also offer a preview of the projects scheduled for 2020.
In 2019, our grantees brought dance to Center City rooftops, created a mobile photography museum, worked with incarcerated artists to animate short films, brought the history of the 14th Amendment to life, examined the Black American experience through exhibitions and installations, and more. For Questions of Practice, artists and cultural practitioners like curator Koyo Kouoh, artist Yael Bartana, and conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin discussed a wide range of topics including transdisciplinary practice, engaging with social issues, and contextualizing older work for a contemporary audience.
