The Pew Center for Art & Heritage’s 2018 Year in Review highlights the projects and artists we fund, as well as some of the critical questions and artistic inquiries raised by their work: What inspires artistic creation? How can art effect social change? Why do artists cross disciplinary boundaries? These questions resonate across the field of culture locally and globally.
Center-supported projects and artists from around the world addressed these questions in a variety of compelling ways, including: Zanele Muholi’s mobile museum, Tania El Khoury’s immersive installations, and Taylor Mac’sdazzling 24 hours of performance. In addition, essays from leading artists and cultural scholars in the new book The Sentient Archive: Bodies, Performance, and Memory offered remarkable insights into how artists theorize the body as a repository of knowledge.
