Music flourished in the towns of the New World in the late 16th through 18th centuries as old world Spanish musical culture, dominated by the Catholic Church, met a fertile and flourishing indigenous practice. In part two of Piffaro’s Journey, travel to four different countries to explore the rich and thriving results -- something recognizably European at its core, but infused with local hues and textures. Hear villancicos, motets and mass movements, interspersed with instrumental dances that were a part of the musical traditions in Mexico, Guatemala, Bolivia and Peru. With guests The Rose Ensemble, an internationally recognized vocal group from Minnesota, and actor Dito Van Reigersberg, will weave together the West to East journey. Funded by the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage through the Philadelphia Music Project, this concert is part of a larger community outreach to regional Spanish-speaking children in Kennett Square and North Philadelphia. Piffaro’s pre-concert talk will feature the artistic collaboration and work with the community.

Pre-concert Talk: hear the children and the Co-Artistic Directors talk about the regional Spanish-speaking outreach project associated with this concert; 45 minutes before each show; Free to concert ticket holders

Tickets: $15-$40 (Purchase here).
