In conjunction with its Unity at the Initiative exhibition, Asian Arts Initiative (AAI) hosts an interactive gallery and skate room. Reserve a private 30-to-60-minute slot to visit the Asian Arts Initiative building and enjoy the ramps and rails installed through the space. Guests are asked to bring their own skateboards, as rentals will not be available.
AAI provides materials to those who’d like to try their hand at wheatpasting, with the opportunity to add custom posters to the walls of the space. At the Unity Within the Initiative capsule exhibition down the hall, space is available to add personal artworks.
Unity at the Initiative is a multimedia exhibition and in-home experience anchored in the work of Oakland-based artist and skater Jeffrey Cheung and his Unity initiative, which celebrates queer and trans BIPOC creativity and community.
