Spirit – The Indian Music Experience featuring internationally renowned classical Bamboo Flautist from India Shashank Subrahmanyam in a collaboration with the Anwar Khan Manganiyar, Feroze Khan Mananiyar and Gehwar Kahn Manganiyar. The Manganiars represent a folk tradition of the deserts of Rajasthan that has remained strong, vibrant and evocative through the years. The Manganiar community comprises of generations of professional musicians, to whom music has been bequeathed as legacy. The soulful seventeen-stringed Kamaicha along with double percussion of the Dholak (hand drum) and the castanets-like Khartaal, accompanying the powerful vocals creates the unique sound of this rich tradition. They will be accompanied by Purbayan Chatterjee on the sitar and Patri Satish Kumar on the mridangam. (text from Painted Bride Art Center website).
