Composer Lembit Beecher presents Sophia’s Forest, a multi-disciplinary chamber opera that focuses on the experience of childhood. The work features a mechanical, electronic sound-generating sculpture that will grow from a small music box into a seven-foot tall object as the performance unfolds. Created in collaboration with the Drexel ExCITE Center, the sculpture will represent a family heirloom belonging to the principal character, a 9-year-old girl. Directed by Brian Staufenbiel with original libretto by Hannah Moscovitch, Sophia’s Forest will be performed by soprano Kierra Duffy and the Aizuri Quartet.
