Curtis Institute of Music and Drexel University’s Westphal College of Media Arts & Design present Rehearsing Philadelphia, a large-scale public art project created by composer and artist Ari Benjamin Meyers that explores the ways in which musical rehearsals can connect people across the city of Philadelphia.
Rehearsing Philadelphia offers a variety of ways for audiences to encounter musical performances throughout the city—from intimate solos and interactive duets to small ensemble and orchestra performances. It culminates with a performance by a Public Orchestra assembled from an open call and inclusive of varied musical practices.
Rehearsing Philadelphia includes performances of commissioned works by Ari Benjamin Meyers and Pew Fellows CA Conrad, Germaine Ingram, and Ursula Rucker, as well as Sun Ra Arkestra (led by Pew Fellow Marshall Allen), Zoë Keating, Tyshawn Sorey, Ei Arakawa, Fred Schmidt-Arenales, Xenia Rubinos, Ann Carlson and others.
