Installation view of Temple Contemporary's reFORM exhibition, 2015. Photo by Tim Gibbon.
Temple Contemporary commissioned 2006 Pew Fellow and MacArthur Fellow Pepón Osorio to create a new installation that responds to recent Philadelphia school closings—specifically addressing the loss of Fairhill Elementary School in North Philadelphia, not far from Temple University. Many of the materials used in the building of reFORM—from the floor to the ceiling—have been salvaged from Fairhill School after its closing in 2013. Osorio's artistic process for this project was guided by months of conversations with students, parents, teachers, and administrators from Fairhill as well as previous members of the School Reform Commission.
Exhibition hours are 12-5 p.m., Thursday to Sunday and by appointment.
