The Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, in collaboration with Moore College of Art & Design's Social & Studio Practices department, presents an artist talk with Michael Rakowitz, who will discuss his participatory performance and radio project, Radio Silence.

Supported by the Center, the project invites American veterans from the Iraq War and the Iraqi refugee community to share their experiences and memories of the war. Rakowitz will weave together their personal stories, cultural traditions, music, and found sound to create scripted passages that will serve as the backbone of a live performance on Independence Mall. A ten-episode radio program and podcast will combine recorded elements from the live performance with studio and field-based recordings, offering national audiences an opportunity to engage with an intimate, multifaceted, and sustained portrait of Iraq.
