In conjunction with its year-long project The Quiet Circus, Headlong presents a reflection event, part of a series of happenings occurring alongside the project’s ritual performance practice. Beginning at dawn, the meditative experience commences with a sunrise viewing through The Skyspace open roof, followed by a presentation by Kay Larson, author of Where the Heart Beats: John Cage, Zen Buddhism and the Inner Life of Artists. A Quiet Circus performance at Washington Avenue Pier will follow from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

The event is free; advanced registration is encouraged. Participants are encouraged to bring breakfast; coffee and tea will be provided.

Through a series of 36 performances, The Quiet Circus considers questions surrounding development and decay, land and water, as well as industry and gentrification. Performances include Island, a dance-theater score created with Ishmael Houston Jones and Polly Motley; Landscape, a performance game that invites audiences to create their own scenery using nine large-scale sculptures; and The Luminous World, a durational piece in which subtle human actions reveal a buzzing, luminous performance of the environment.
