The Philadelphia Photo Arts Center presents an arts carnival in conjunction with its 15-month, multi-phase engagement and exhibition, Hank Willis Thomas: Philly Block Project. Celebrating the neighborhood of South Kensington, the festival will include artmaking workshops, carnival rides and games, and performances by local musicians, acrobats, theatre ensembles, and dancers.
Igniting a dialogue on issues related to gentrification, Philly Block Project invites conceptual artist Hank Willis Thomas to engage the community through public forums and photography. The project culminates in a gallery installation of Thomas' recreation of a city block with a series of 1:1 scale photographs of South Kensington's people and buildings.
