Christ Church Preservation Trust presents The Philadelphia Matter - 1972/2020, a newly commissioned performance work from pioneering postmodern choreographer, theatrical director, and writer David Gordon that builds upon his foundational work The Matter, first produced in 1972 and most recently reconceived for MoMA in 2018.

Gordon continues his exploration of the boundary between life and art using a remote rehearsal process with performers working from their own homes and personal spaces. The hour-long screen work is made in collaboration with videographer, editor, and Pew Fellow Jorge Cousineau, assembling the new performances with archival pieces.

The Philadelphia Matter - 1972/2020 consists of performances from more than 30 Philadelphia-based artists in addition to New York-based dancer Wally Cardona and Pick Up Performance Co(s) members Valda Setterfield and Karen Graham. The piece is available to watch on the Christ Church Neighborhood House website for the duration of the 2020 Philadelphia Fringe Festival.
