Philadelphia Assembled Exhibition

The Philadelphia Museum of Art presents an exhibition of participatory sites created through the large-scale, multi-part project, Philadelphia Assembled. Initiated by Dutch visual artist Jeanne van Heeswijk, in collaboration with hundreds of regional artist and community members, the exhibition and coinciding public programs invite audiences to share their perspectives on the city, its history, and its future through interactive environments that activate the museum’s public spaces.

Philadelphia Assembled is an expansive, citywide project that invites change agents throughout the city to collectively imagine a present and future Philadelphia. The multi-part project is organized around five notions, or what van Heeswijk calls “atmospheres”—Reconstructions, Sovereignty, Futures, Sanctuary, and Movement—each derived from preliminary conversations about the city’s changing landscape.
