A Period of Animate Existence
Pig Iron Theatre Company presents the world premiere of A Period of Animate Existence, a symphonic theater hybrid that brings together actors, classical musicians, intergenerational choirs, and electronic music. Set in a time of rapid ecological and technological changes, the work echoes the character and pacing of a 19th-century symphony as the story contemplates the future of the planet.
Pig Iron’s largest production to date, A Period of Animate Existence features more than 80 performers including The Crossing choir, Contemporaneous chamber orchestra, and members of the Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale, Philadelphia Girls Choir, and Philomusica. The work was developed by Pig Iron artistic director and co-founder Dan Rothenberg, composer Troy Herion, playwright Will Eno, and designer Mimi Lien, and will debut during the 2017 FringeArts Festival.
