As part of its Then and Now: Jazz Cubano series, Montgomery County Community College's (MCCC) Lively Arts Series hosts the Omar Sosa Afri-Lectric Experience. Sosa is a highly accomplished performer, having received the Smithsonian Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the development of Latin jazz in the United States and the Afro-Caribbean Jazz Album of the Year Award from the Jazz Journalists Association in New York City for his recording Sentir. He has also been nominated for multiple Grammy and BBC World Music awards. Fusing the expressive traditions of Africa and the Americas with a cosmopolitan mix of jazz, world music and electronic elements, the Los Angeles Times salutes his potential, saying he has "all the traits necessary to become one of the important figures in jazz."
