Intercultural Journeys’ Modupúe | Ibaye: The Philadelphia Yoruba Performance Project presents a dance and culture workshop with Awilda Sterling Duprey, a Puerto-Rico-based master dancer, performance artist, and educator. This Intercultural Journeys’ Center-supported project explores the history and contemporary expressions of Yoruba-rooted practices and their role in shaping Philadelphia’s social and cultural landscape. Through traditional movement and drumming, Sterling Duprey will share her knowledge of Orisha dancing in the Afro-Cuban tradition, and investigate the impact of Hurricane Maria’s destructive forces on bodies, minds, emotions, and the physical environment.
