In conjunction with Ars Nova Workshop’s exhibition Milford Graves: A Mind-Body Deal, the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) hosts a virtual discussion centered around the concept of embodiment in Graves’ work as it relates to different forms of communication, such as ancient symbols and digital technologies like social media and virtual reality.

The event is led by two graduate students from the University of Pennsylvania’s History of Art and Weitzman School of Design departments, part of ICA’s Coffee & Conversation series. All levels of interest and knowledge regarding contemporary art are invited to participate.

Milford Graves: A Mind-Body Deal explores a lifetime of multidisciplinary creative work by free jazz pioneer and polymath Milford Graves, whose career traversed music, activism, medicine, botany, and martial arts. The exhibition is open at ICA through January 24.
