Ars Nova Workshop, in collaboration with the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) at the University of Pennsylvania, hosts a virtual opening reception for the exhibition Milford Graves: A Mind-Body Deal.
The evening’s presentation offers context on the life and work of prolific polymath Milford Graves through dialogue between Ars Nova Workshop executive director Mark Christman, ICA chief curator Anthony Elms, and cultural leader Blake Bradford, director of the non-profit organization Points of Entry.
A Mind-Body Deal explores Graves’ influential career as a drummer as well as his work in activism, medicine, botany, and martial arts. The exhibition featuring Graves’ artworks, archival recordings, and ephemera is on view at ICA through January 24.
The virtual reception is free, but registration is required.
