J-Sette becomes the focus of the world premiere of jumatatu m. poe’s Let ‘im Move You: This is a Formation at Painted Bride Art Center. Created in collaboration with dancer Jermone “Donte” Beacham, the evening-length dance centers on the artists’ explorations of J-Sette—a dance form with origins in southern drill teams and made popular in the gay African American club scene—and uses live video installations and audience inclusion to explore “Black queerness, resistance, and joy,” the artists say.
