Kulu Mele African Dance & Drum Ensemble presents Wemilere: Parade of the Orishas, a dance program with a selection of works from Ogun & the People. In collaboration with the African American Museum and Taller Puertorriqueño, this performance is a celebration of eight orishas (deities) in Yoruba cultures. Following the live performances, there will be 12-minute film screening by filmmaker Aidan Un that documents Kulu Mele’s 2018 visit to Cuba during their company residency with the Ballet Folklórico Cutumba.
Led by Kulu Mele artistic director Dorothy Wilkie, full-length narrative dance performances for Ogun & the People will premiere in fall 2019.
