A year of live performances, interviews, and a multimedia website culminates with the launch of the WXPN’s Gospel Roots of Rock and Soul radio documentary, broadcast to national audiences. Narrated by gospel singer CeCe Winans and produced by award-winning radio producer Alex Lewis, the four-hour documentary begins with the history and foundation of black gospel and highlights such highly influential artists as Sam Cooke, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, and Elvis Presley. Distributed by NPR, the documentary features WXPN project performances from The Fairfield Four, The McCrary Sisters, and The Dixie Hummingbirds.

In Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Lancaster, York, North Jersey and the Poconos, Gospel Roots of Rock and Soul will be broadcast by WXPN 88.5 FM in four parts, February 4, 5, 6 and 7 (8 p.m. EST). It will also air on WRTI 90.1 FM to Philadelphia listeners in four parts, February 10, 17, and 24 and March 3 (8 a.m. EST). See the full list of national air times.
