In conjunction with its Center-funded project Emerging Voices: Art Song and Social Connection, the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society (PCMS) presents a panel discussion featuring project curator and tenor vocalist Nicholas Phan, dramaturg Cori Ellison, pianist and music historian Ceri Owen, and historian Jay Winter. The speakers will explore how art song was historically used to understand national identity, especially during times of great social, political, and cultural change.
The event is free with registration.
Emerging Voices illustrates how the art song form, with its intersection of poetry and music, remains a powerful vehicle for social exchange.
