Percussionist and Pew Fellow Pablo Batista presents a work-in-progress showing of his forthcoming Center-funded project El Viaje (The Journey), as part of The Barnes Foundation's Free First Sunday series. Blending Afro-Cuban rhythms and contemporary Western instrumentation, this preview will showcase excerpts from Batista's full-length production that tells the story of the spiritual and cultural resilience of those forced to emigrate from Africa to the Americas.

The full production of El Viaje will be presented at Temple University Performing Arts Center on June 25 and 26, 2016, and will feature a larger ensemble of musicians, Afro-Caribbean dance, and multi-media imagery (performance times to be announced soon).

This performance is free and open to the public.
