(Dis)placed Showcase & Concert: “Of Roads and Homes”
4:00 - 6:30 p.m.
Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture presents the culminating event of its Center-funded project (Dis)placed: Expressions of Identity in Transition. The event will begin with a poetry reading by Nazem El Sayed, a screening of a commissioned film by Dave Tavani, and artwork inspired by Buthayna Ali, followed by the world premiere of composer and Pew Fellow Kinan Abou-afach’s (2013) “Of Roads and Homes.”
(Dis)placed: Expressions of Identity in Transition is an international collaboration among four artists of Arab heritage who created new work grappling with notions of displacement. Collaborators include Syrian composer and Pew Fellow Kinan Abou-afach, Lebanese poet Nazem El Sayed, Syrian visual artist Buthayna Ali, and Tunisian visual artist eL Seed. Each artist was in residence in Philadelphia and held public viewings and open rehearsals of works in progress, in an effort to foster close engagement between the artists and the local community.
Tickets are $20 in advance; $25 at the door; $10 for students.
