As part of its ongoing project (Dis)placed: Expressions of Identity in Transition, Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture presents its third public forum exploring stories of displacement and the theme of “origins.” The event will include a presentation by writer Anne de Forest and photographer Dave Tavani, who compiled the stories of nine immigrants in Philadelphia, followed by an art-making workshop responding to the immigrant stores led by visual artist Ali Abdel Mohsen.

This event is free and open to the public; advanced registration is required.

(Dis)placed: Expressions of Identity in Transition is an international collaboration among four artists of Arab heritage who will create new work grappling with notions of displacement. Collaborators include Syrian composer and Pew Fellow Kinan Abou-afach, Lebanese poet Nazem El Sayed, Syrian visual artist Buthayna Ali, and Tunisian visual artist eL Seed. Each artist will be in residence in Philadelphia and will hold public viewings and open rehearsals of works in progress, in an effort to foster close engagement between the artists and the local community.
