(Dis)placed: Music & Tales of Home
4pm - 5:30pm
As part of its ongoing project (Dis)placed: Expressions of Identity in Transition, Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture presents a concert of Syrian music and stories of displacement in Philadelphia, featuring Pew Fellows Kinan Abou-afach and Hafez Javier Kotain, composer Issam Rafea, clarinetist Kinan Azmeh, and storyteller Denise Valentine.
(Dis)placed: Expressions of Identity in Transition is an international collaboration among four artists of Arab heritage who are creating new work grappling with notions of displacement. Collaborators include Syrian composer and Pew Fellow Kinan Abou-afach, Lebanese poet Nazem El Sayed, Syrian visual artist Buthayna Ali, and Tunisian visual artist eL Seed. Each artist will be in residence in Philadelphia and will hold public viewings and open rehearsals of works in progress, in an effort to foster close engagement between the artists and the local community.
