(Dis)placed Mural by eL Seed
Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture has co-commissioned a mural by Tunisian street artist eL Seed as part of its ongoing project (Dis)placed: Expressions of Identity in Transition. In collaboration with Mural Arts Philadelphia, Al-Bustan will present a series of community events and conversations leading up to the unveiling of the new public artwork in West Philadelphia.
(Dis)placed: Expressions of Identity in Transition is an international collaboration among four artists of Arab heritage who will create new work grappling with notions of displacement. Collaborators include Syrian composer and Pew Fellow Kinan Abou-afach, Lebanese poet Nazem El Sayed, Syrian visual artist Buthayna Ali, and Tunisian visual artist eL Seed. Each artist will be in residence in Philadelphia and will hold public viewings and open rehearsals of works in progress, in an effort to foster close engagement between the artists and the local community.
