Building Knowledge, Breaking Barriers Exhibitions
The Presbyterian Historical Society (PHS), in collaboration with classes from the Community College of Philadelphia (CCP), presents Building Knowledge, Breaking Barriers, a series of exhibitions offering new perspectives on the histories contained in the extensive PHS archives.
From 2019 into 2021, eight current and former CCP students worked collaboratively with professional exhibitors and PHS staff to mine 500 years’ worth of documents and ephemera contained in the archives. This research generated exhibitions that examine the history of the Black Presbyterian Church, the historical norms surrounding the words “abolition” and “revolution,” and the western Christian influence on Japan, among other topics.
Two outdoor exhibitions are open to view in person, with indoor installations to follow. All of the exhibits are available to view online.
